విడువ విడువనింక (Viduva viduva ninka) - Annamacharya Song (Meaning)


విడువ విడువనింక విష్ణుఁడ నీపాదములు
కడఁగి సంసారవార్ధి కడుముంచుకొనిన           // పల్లవి //
viḍuva viḍuvaniṁka viṣṇŭḍa nīpādamulu
kaḍăgi saṁsāravārdhi kaḍumuṁcukonina           // pallavi //

viḍuva(nu) = (I) wont let go
viḍuvanu-iṁka = (I) wont let go now on
viṣṇŭḍa = O, Viṣṇu
nī = your
pādamulu = feet
kaḍăgi = (It) having tried
saṁsāra = the drama of existense
vārdhi = ocean
kaḍu = very well
muṁcukonina  = even if (it) deluges

O Vishnu, I will not let go of your feet, I will not
even if the wordly-ocean tries and deluges all.

పరమాత్మ నీవెందో, పరాకైయున్నాను
పరగ నన్నింద్రియాలు పరచినాను
ధరణిపైఁ జెలరేఁగి తనువు వేసరినాను
దురితాలు నలువంకఁ దొడికి తీసినను          // విడు //
paramātma nīveṁdō, parākaiyunnānu
paraga nanniṁdriyālu paracinānu
dharaṇipaĭ jelarē̆gi tanuvu vēsarinānu
duritālu naluvaṁkă doḍiki tīsinanu          // viḍu //

doḍiki-tīsinanu = siezed / accumulated

O Supreme Soul, where be you?
Distracted, I spread my senses all over.
Having gone wild on earth, I drained my body
and accumulated crimes on all four sides.

పుట్టుగులిట్టె రానీ భువి లేక మాననీ
వట్టి ముదిమైనరానీ వయసేరానీ
చుట్టుకొన్న బంధములు చూడనీ వీడనీ
నెట్టుకొన్న యంతరాత్మ నీకు నాకుఁ బోదు    // విడు //

vaṭṭi mudimaina rānī vayasē rānī
cuṭṭukonna baṁdhamulu cūḍanī vīḍanī
neṭṭukonna yaṁtarātma nīku nākŭ bōdu    // viḍu //

bōdu = (it) will never be done

May there come more births on earth, may they not
May there come decrepitude, may old age come
May the acculumated relatives take care, may they abandon
(Since you are my) Established Indweller,
you and I are never done (with each other).


యీదేహమే యయిన ఇఁక నొకటైనాను
కాదుఁగూడదని ముక్తి కడకేఁగినా
శ్రీదేవుఁడవైన శ్రీవేంకటేశ నిను
సోదించి నీశరణమె చొచ్చితి నేనిఁకను        // విడు //

śrīdēvŭḍavaina śrīvēṁkaṭēśa ninu

It may be in this body, it may in another
Even if Liberation denies and I die.
O, Sri Venkatesa of Sri Devi,
I sought your refuge and entered it from now on.

Notes:

This song falls under the category of Spiritual Devotional songs by Saint Annamacharya. "Seeking Refuge at the Ideal's feet" is an integral part of the Bhakti tradition of yoga, which this song epitomizes. Note that here he is not even asking for Refuge, he is in a way bullying the Lord, claiming that he already entered His Refuge and now its up to Him. He even goes on to remind him that even if all else abandon him, even if Liberation itself does, God as the in-dweller Himself can not!
